  "body": "Every organization is now being told to make its knowledge AI-ready. Write it all down, connect the systems, and the assistant will finally know what the institution knows.\n\nThat is half right. A lot of what an assistant cannot answer could easily have been told: why a decision was made, or whether a policy still applies. Nobody wrote it down, so the machine stumbles exactly where the institution was never clear with itself. That part is repair work, and AI is good at showing where it is needed.\n\nThe other half is harder. Polanyi wrote that we know more than we can tell, and some of what makes an institution work lives in judgment and practice that no document will put on call. Heidegger described modern technology as turning the world into stock, available on demand. AI does that to institutional memory, and whatever refuses to become stock shows up as a failure.\n\nSo making everything retrievable is the wrong goal.
